These axles carry drive torque from the differential out to the wheel hubs while accommodating suspension movement, and they're a central part of the drivetrain that sees constant load every time you're on the throttle. A bent or broken axle will cut power to that wheel entirely, which usually shows up as an obvious loss of drive after a hard crash or big landing.
